BHMA Statement:
The BHMA stands with the Black Community around the world as they fight for racial equality. The numerous deaths of innocent, African American men and women have made us all reflect on the ongoing injustices that the Afro-Caribbean community have faced for generations. Black British citizens were reported to be 71% more likely to die from COVID-19 than their white counterparts and the percentage of BAME NHS staff experiencing harassment, bullying or abuse has seen its largest increase from 27% to 29%. There is no place for institutional racism in any facet of our society especially not in our healthcare system. The BHMA looks forward to taking a proactive approach in ensuring that all British citizens regardless of race, ethnicity or socio-economic status have access to sustainable, holistic and humanistic health care.
