An interview on the bridge

Autumn 2014
David Peters and Dan Keown

The gulf between western scientific medicine and traditional systems based on centuries of wise, rigorous observation is vast. From both camps practitioners gaze mistrustfully across the chasm; inhabiting two different worlds. Dan Keown’s new book (The Spark in the Machine) throws a line across the paradigm gap, capturing the imagination as well as the intellect, as it wrestles with the mystery of how organisms self-organise.
Sensing hints of a hopeful future horizon for medicine I asked him to speak about his work and to let JHH publish a sample chapter. Happily he agreed.
